Russian troops carried out a drone strike on Odesa region on the night of March 18, damaging a critical infrastructure facility and causing a fire. There were no fatalities or injuries.
As reported by Oleg Kiper, head of the Odesa regional military administration: “Russian terrorists attacked Odesa region with strike drones at night. As a result of the Russian strike, a critical infrastructure facility and part of the equipment were damaged.”
During the attack, a fire broke out, which was quickly extinguished by rescuers. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine noted that “this night, as a result of the hit, a critical infrastructure facility was destroyed with subsequent fire.”
After the fire was extinguished, work is underway to restore the equipment and eliminate the consequences of the attack.
At the time of extinguishing the fire, there were repeated air alarm signals. Wreckage of a drone has been found in southern Moldova, which may indicate that it was a Russian suicide drone of the Shahed type. Overall, the situation remains under control, and special services continue to work to eliminate the consequences of the Russian attack.
This incident highlights the continued threat from Russian drones, which can strike critical infrastructure in Ukraine. The strike on the Odesa region indicates an attempt by Russian forces to destabilize the situation in the region, despite the presence of an air alert system. At the same time, the prompt response of rescue services demonstrates Ukraine’s readiness to respond to such threats.
