During the two years of the war in Ukraine, Russia destroyed or damaged more than 210,000 buildings. This shocking statistic was the result of an analysis of data from radar satellites, which are able to detect even small changes in buildings.
According to scientists, the estimate of 210,000 destroyed or damaged buildings is the most optimistic. The real number may be even higher, indicating the extent of the destruction the war has caused to the country.
It is noted that half of the destroyed buildings are located on the territory of Donbas, which is one of the most affected areas due to the conflict.
According to the research, among 210,000 damaged buildings, about 900 objects are included in the list protected by the Geneva Conventions. Among them are 106 hospitals, 109 churches, and 708 schools, universities and colleges.
Apart from Mariupol, Kharkiv, Rubizhne, Maryinka and Irpin were recognized as the most affected cities.
