Russia drone strikes German ship in Black Sea near Odesa

On August 5, Russian forces have used drones to attack the German bulk carrier Emil in the Black Sea near Odesa. After several hits, the ship lost its ability to maneuver and a fire broke out on board. The crew was evacuated, and during the rescue operation, the Russians launched another strike.

The ship lost control after several hits

The attack occurred when the bulk carrier Emil was approximately 21 nautical miles from the port of Odesa.

Several strikes by Russian drones caused a number of technical systems on the ship to fail, causing it to lose its ability to maneuver. A fire then broke out on board.

The crew decided to abandon the ship. During the evacuation, Russian forces launched another strike with a drone.

According to preliminary information, none of the crew members were injured. There were no German citizens among the sailors.

The bulk carrier flies the flag of Liberia, but is owned by the Hamburg shipping company Johann M. K. Blumenthal.
