The KURUOGLU-3 cargo ship was carrying 2,800 tons of nitrogen fertilizer. Two days before the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation on February 24, 2022, the ship docked in the port of Kherson.
On February 27, Russian missiles hit a Turkish ship that had been in Kherson port for two years. This was reported by the seamen’s support platform “Deniz İşçleri”.
It is about the cargo ship KURUOGLU-3, which belongs to the Istanbul company Kuruoglu Denizcilik. Due to the threat of mines in the Black Sea, it was moored in Kherson on February 22, 2022.
According to the report of the Turkish organization, there were 2,800 tons of nitrogen fertilizer – bulk urea – on board the ship. There is no information about the number of crew members and their current condition.
Oleksandr Prokudin, the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, reported without details about the ship being hit.
In turn, the maritime security company Ambrey said that over the past two years, numerous ships stuck in Ukrainian ports have been injured or damaged.
In particular, on November 8, 2023, the Russian invaders hit the infrastructure of one of the ports in Odesa and targeted a civilian ship under the flag of Liberia, which was moored near the pier. The ship was supposed to transport iron ore to China.
