
On the night of January 28, Russian troops struck the Holy Dormition Monastery in Odesa. As a result of the attack, there are injured and significant destruction on the territory of the monastery.
This was reported by the Odesa Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the State Emergency Service of the Odesa region.
What is known about the consequences of the strike
The monastery is located in the Kyiv district of Odesa. According to the diocese, the strike occurred in the dairy and the farmyard. A seminarian was injured and hospitalized.
In addition, on the territory of the monastery: stained glass windows were broken in the cathedral church “Zhivonosne Dzherelo”; the greenhouse was destroyed, where the boiler room and heating system were damaged; glass in the windows and doors was broken; the building of Metropolitan Agafangel and the monastery hotel were damaged.
The diocese noted that plants stored in the greenhouse for spring and summer plantings may not withstand winter temperatures.
The State Emergency Service reported that fires broke out in the monastery buildings as a result of the hits, and warehouse and administrative premises and cars were also damaged. The work of rescuers was complicated by repeated air alarms.
According to preliminary information, three people were injured. All fires have now been extinguished. 106 rescuers and 30 pieces of equipment were involved in eliminating the consequences of the attack.
The Odesa diocese emphasized that there were no fatalities, and the brothers and novices managed to hide in shelters.
