Russia strikes Strazhesko Institute in Kyiv for the second time: operating room destroyed, one person wounded

On October 20, Russian forces attacked the Strazhesko Institute of Cardiology in Kyiv for the second time. This strike hit the sixth floor, where an operating room is located. One patient was wounded; there were no fatalities.

According to Serhiy Koretskyi, the Russian attack damaged an operating room on the sixth floor of the medical facility.

“The Russians have struck a hospital once again. This time, they hit an operating room at the Strazhesko Institute—part of the National Academy of Medical Sciences—in Kyiv,” stated Koretskyi.

One patient sustained injuries and received the necessary medical attention. There are no reports of other casualties within the institute itself.

Emergency services are currently on-site, addressing the aftermath of the strike.

The Strazhesko Institute specializes in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, drawing patients from across Ukraine. The facility performs cardiac surgeries, treats heart attacks, and provides rehabilitation services.

Russian forces had previously attacked this medical facility in 2025, causing damage to the fourth floor.

According to the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, a patient and a medical staff member were inside the building during that earlier strike; both were killed.

Following that attack, two departments were temporarily taken out of service, and patients were relocated to other areas. Despite the destruction, the institute continued to provide medical care.

In the Holosiivskyi district, drone debris struck a medical facility, while in the Solomianskyi district, a drone damaged the top floor of another medical building.
