Russia strikes Sumy suburb with ballistic missiles: child killed, many injured

On the evening of May 6, Russians attacked the Sumy suburb, hitting civilian objects with a ballistic missile. As a result of the shelling, three people died, including a child, and more than 10 people were injured.

This was reported by the head of the Sumy regional military administration, Oleg Grigorov. According to him, most of the injured are children, and one child is in extremely serious condition.

“The Russians attacked the Sumy suburb at around 5:30 p.m. Previously, the Russians struck civilian infrastructure with a ballistic missile. The consequences of the Russian attack are being clarified,” he wrote.

Initially, Oleg Grigorov reported the death of one child and expressed condolences to the parents.

“Six people are injured. Most of the injured are children. One child is in extremely serious condition,” he added.

He later updated the number of victims: four children and four adults who were injured are currently in medical facilities, but two are in extremely serious condition. The death toll has also increased to three.

The Sumy Regional Military Administration confirmed that three people were killed as a result of the Russian strike on the outskirts of Sumy: a 6-year-old boy and two adults (a 20-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man).

The State Emergency Service showed the consequences of the Russian missile strike on the suburbs and emphasized that the Russians struck the civilian infrastructure of the Sumy district.

“As of 19:45, 3 people are already known to have died (2 people died in the hospital, including 1 child) and 11 injured, including 5 children,” the State Emergency Service noted.

The National Police of Ukraine reported that investigative and operational groups are recording the consequences of the Russian crime in the Sumy region, and criminal proceedings have been opened under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (war crimes).

“All emergency services are working to eliminate the consequences of the shelling. Civilian infrastructure facilities have been damaged,” the law enforcement officers noted.

The police added that as of 8:00 p.m., three people had died, including a 6-year-old boy, a 20-year-old girl, and a 41-year-old man.
