Russian attack on Kernel assets: Illichivsk oil and fat plant damaged on Christmas night

On the night of December 25, the Russian Federation carried out an attack on the agro-processing assets of Kernel in the Odessa region. The Illichivsk oil and fat plant, located in the city of Chornomorsk, was hit.

This was reported by the Kernel press service.

As a result of the drone strike, a tank with vegetable oil was damaged, which caused a large-scale fire and a product leak. The fire engulfed part of the company’s production facilities. In addition, the fragments of the UAV damaged individual elements of the production unit. Work is currently underway to eliminate the consequences of the attack and assess the damage caused, in particular, the amount of lost oil is being established. There are no casualties among the personnel.

The attack was another episode in a series of targeted Russian strikes on the port and oil refining infrastructure of the Odessa region in recent weeks. The shelling has targeted facilities for storing, transshipment and processing agricultural products, including vegetable oil terminals and port infrastructure.

The shelling has killed at least nine people, injured dozens of civilians, destroyed thousands of tons of products and caused large-scale fires involving food cargoes — flour and oil. Serious environmental risks for the Black Sea are also being recorded.
