Russian drones attacked Sumy: there is large-scale destruction

On the night of May 17, Sumy became a target for drone strikes. As a result of the attack, residential buildings, transport and a shopping center were damaged. Employees of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine promptly responded to the consequences of the shelling and worked at four locations, helping the affected residents and recording the extent of the destruction.

As a result of the night attack, windows in multi-story residential buildings were broken in different parts of the city. Civilian cars parked near the hit sites were also damaged.

In addition, one of the shopping centers was also damaged, which creates additional risks for local businesses and city residents. In a number of cases, rescuers had to work on eliminating fire sources and ensuring fire safety.

Immediately after the shelling, the State Emergency Service rescuers began surveying the territories, providing assistance to local residents who were affected by the blast wave, and recording the damage. According to the State Emergency Service, the main attention was paid to ensuring security at the sites of the hits, especially in multi-storey buildings and near civilian infrastructure.

The attacks on Sumy once again demonstrate the focus of Russian shelling on civilian infrastructure and residential areas. Damage to housing, transport and business facilities creates additional challenges for local authorities and rescue services. Residents of the city are forced to once again face the consequences of the war, and rescuers are working in an intensified mode to minimize damage and help the victims.
