Russian drones destroy 90 shops at the Barabashovo market in Kharkiv

On the morning of May 6, Kharkiv was again targeted by Russian Shahed suicide drones.

One of the main targets of the Russians was the largest market in Ukraine, Barabashovo. As a result of a direct hit by a drone, a large-scale fire broke out in the children’s goods sector, which destroyed three shopping blocks – about 90 shops.

Almost a hundred more retail outlets received various damages: broken windows, damaged roller blinds, destroyed walls. The market administration plans to relocate the tenants whose shops were affected to other pavilions, and now the damage assessment and clearing of rubble are underway.

This is the second strike on Barabashovo in the past two months. The previous shelling also caused significant damage – then they had just begun to restore the damaged shops and dismantle the remains of the structures, when the explosion sounded again.

This time, the drone hit a new site, where shops selling children’s clothing, toys, and other goods for children are located. The fire spread very quickly, and smoke from the fire was visible from different districts of Kharkiv.

According to Oleksandr Makarenko, vice president of Concern AVEK and Co., the main task now is to determine the final amount of losses and restore the market as soon as possible.

The fire covered an area of about 500 square meters.
