Russian drones hit Zhytomyr region: infrastructure damaged, one community without electricity

The head of the Zhytomyr regional military administration, Vitaly Bunechko, confirmed that the Russian army repeatedly attacked the region during the day.

The Zhytomyr region spent the night and morning of May 31 under massive strikes by Russian UAVs. The Korosten district and the Ovrut community suffered the most, where damage to critical and civilian infrastructure, as well as production facilities, was recorded. As of this morning, there was no information about the injured or dead.

A series of explosions were heard in Korosten on the morning of May 31, after which thick smoke rose over the city. Deputy Mayor Natalia Chyzhevska spoke about the situation.

“Today, there were alarms all night in Korosten, it was restless. And the last morning alarm – literally a few minutes before its end, several explosions sounded and as a result, smoke is visible over the city. There is obviously damage to the infrastructure. As of 11:00, emergency vehicles can be heard driving. There is no more information at the moment,” the official noted.

The head of the Zhytomyr regional military administration, Vitaly Bunechko, confirmed that the Russian army repeatedly attacked the region during May 30-31. He noted that the strikes fell on critical infrastructure facilities and civilian production facilities in the Korosten district.

“Critical infrastructure facilities and civilian production facilities in the Korosten district were under attack. Currently, there is no information about the dead or injured,” he noted.

Bunechko also reported that the fires that broke out after the shelling were quickly extinguished by the State Emergency Service rescuers, despite the risk of repeated attacks. Work is underway to eliminate the consequences and survey the territories.

The Ovrut community lost power after the night attack. According to the mayor, Ivan Korud, restoration may take a long time. Invincibility Points have been deployed in the community – in the city council building, the central library and the starosta districts.

In the city council’s message, part of the text is presented without changes:

“Energy industry specialists are working in an intensified mode and are doing everything possible to restore the supply of electricity to your homes as soon as possible,” Korud noted.

Residents are recommended to contact the starostas, and at the Invincibility Points you can charge your phones, rest and use the Internet.

The State Emergency Service of Zhytomyr region shared footage of the liquidation of the consequences of the enemy attack.
