Russian forces attacked the Zhytomyr region with drones on September 12–13, resulting in fatalities, injuries, and destruction

Russian forces launched drone attacks on the Zhytomyr region over the course of the day. The strikes damaged infrastructure and civilian buildings; two people were killed, and two others were hospitalized with injuries.

According to Vitaliy Bunechko, Head of the Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration, Russian forces had been terrorizing the region with drones since the morning of September 12. Air defense forces shot down some of the Russian drones, but hits were recorded.

The attacks damaged fuel and transport infrastructure, as well as civilian buildings and residents’ property.

Damaged sites included four gas station complexes in the Zviahel and Korosten districts, three civilian vehicles, a grocery store, and an infrastructure facility.

The strikes also sparked two fires in the area.

Rescue teams and emergency services are working to address the aftermath amidst the threat of further attacks.

This is not the first time Russian troops have struck Zviahel and other communities in the Zhytomyr region.

Russian forces deliberately use attack drones to target the region’s civilian and industrial infrastructure.

Notably, on September 12, Russian forces attacked a grocery store in Zviahel. Two people were killed in the attacks that day, which also targeted local gas stations and an enterprise. In addition, on the night of September 12, Russia struck the Cersanit plant in Zviahel. As a result of the Russian drone attack, the facility sustained severe damage, forcing a production halt of at least six months.
