Russian troops are intensively shelling the energy infrastructure of the Sumy region

According to the head of the Sumy regional military administration, Volodymyr Artyukh, the Russians have significantly increased the number of attacks on the territory of the region. In particular, in January 2025, the number of attacks by artillery, mortars, aircraft and other types of weapons doubled compared to the same period in 2024.

Unmanned aerial vehicles, which the Russians are actively using to attack civilian infrastructure, pose a particular threat. Enemy drones are dropping grenades on residential buildings and critical infrastructure facilities, in particular energy ones.

Recently, the Russians have focused their attacks on transformer substations, which leads to massive power outages. According to Artyukh, about 7 thousand residents of the region were left without electricity due to the shelling.

Despite the constant shelling, energy workers are working quickly to restore damaged networks. As a rule, they manage to restore power supply within 2-3 days.
