Russian troops completely destroyed 180 Ukrainian schools, in total more than 1.3 thousand educational institutions were destroyed and damaged. The Minister of Education and Science, Oksen Lisovyi, cited such statistics: “Today we have only 180 schools that have been completely destroyed. More than 300 educational institutions have been destroyed, more than 1,000 educational institutions have been damaged and are subject to examination as to whether they can be rebuilt or not.”

Considering the constant rocket attacks, the government has currently allocated UAH 1.5 billion for the construction of shelters until the academic year 2023. According to Lisovoy, currently three quarters of schools are equipped with shelters of various levels and quality.

“75% of schools are equipped with shelters, but this does not mean that 75% of students can return to school. These are about 9 thousand schools, in total we have 13 thousand schools. For us, the return of students is a priority, we return to education where possible for safety reasons. In the regions that are close to the combat zone, training will take place online.”
