Summary update as of June 14, 2023
The use of weapons of mass destruction against civilians is a crime against humanity and a violation of the four Geneva Conventions of 1949.
By killing civilians, the aggressor’s forces continue to commit crimes against humanity as defined by the Statute of the International Military Tribunal and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, cynically disregarding all the requirements of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War. According to these norms, deliberate attacks on civilians who are not directly involved in hostilities are equated to war crimes.
The taking of civilian hostages is a direct violation of Articles 3 and 34 of the Geneva Convention with regard to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, Article 9 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and Article 5 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
As of June 14, 2023, since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, 488 children were killed and more than 1016 children have been injured. Due to the active hostilities in affected regions, there is no possibility to inspect the areas of shelling and destruction.
In Ukraine, at least 6 civilians were killed and 22 more were injured by Russian military on June 13, as a result of Russian aggression. Information is based on the data of the regional military administrations.
Donetsk and Luhansk Region
On June 14, the troops of the Russian Federation shelled Kostiantynivka and Kramatorsk. As a result of the attack, a 72-year-old woman died, and a 50-year-old man suffered a shrapnel wound to the head. In addition, in Kramatorsk, two men, 53 and 69 years old, died in their own homes, and two more women received bodily injuries of varying degrees of severity. Private homes, cars and other buildings were also damaged and destroyed. In Kramatorsk, at least five private houses were completely destroyed and about two dozen were damaged, in Kostyantynivka – two were destroyed and 55 were damaged. The gas pipeline and electricity networks were damaged. According to preliminary data, the occupiers fired Kh-22 missiles at populated areas.
In total, over the past 24 hours, Russian troops have carried out 15 shelling of 7 settlements in Donetsk region. 24 civilian objects were damaged – 19 residential buildings, a coke-chemical plant, a railway track, and an economic structure. Three civilians were killed, six were wounded.
Dnipro and Region
On June 13, a 17-year-old boy was killed as a result of enemy rocket fire in the city of Kryvyi Rih.
The total number of victims as a result of shelling in Kryvyi Rih increased to 12 people. A 67-year-old man died of burns at night. This was reported by the head of the Dnipro regional military administration Serhii Lysak.
Kharkiv and Region
On June 13, the Russian military once again shelled Kupiansk. Residential buildings were damaged. According to preliminary data, the shelling was carried out by artillery. In the village of Petropavlivka, Kupiansk district, as a result of enemy shelling, a private house, a car and a garage were damaged.
Last day, the occupiers also shelled the village of Ivashky, Bogodukhiv district. A residential building was destroyed. The Vovchansk community remains under constant attacks by the Russian military. Law enforcement officers recorded damage to houses and farm buildings.
In the de-occupied territories of the Kharkiv region, 85 settlements remain without electricity. This was announced by the head of the Kharkiv regional military administration Oleh Synegubov. According to him, villages and towns located in a 5-km zone from the border with the Russian Federation and the front line remain de-energized, since demining is practically impossible there.
Kherson and Region
On June 13, a 9-year-old girl was injured as a result of shelling by the occupiers of the village of Kar’erne, Kherson region.
In the flooded city of Hola Prystan in the temporarily occupied territory of the Kherson region, the water level in the area of the eastern part of the city remains significant – this deprives access to houses. This was reported by the city military administration. According to available and confirmed information, the number of people who died from flooding in the community is six.
Odesa and Region
On the night of June 14, the armed forces of the Russian Federation carried out a missile attack on the city of Odesa. As a result of the shelling, three people died and 13 received multiple injuries, they were hospitalized.
Warehouses of a retail network, a business center, multi-story buildings of a residential complex, as well as an educational institution, commercial facilities, and cars located nearby suffered significant destruction. According to preliminary data, the attacks were carried out by “Kalibr”-type missiles.
Sumy and Region
On June 13, the military forces of the Russian Federation fired on a car that was moving on the territory of the Seredyna-Buda territorial community. As a result of the shelling, 6 people, including 2 civilians and 4 forestry workers, received fatal injuries.
