Why the war in Ukraine is happening in the first place? Because Vladimir Putin needs this country as a complete subordinate, in the Union State, in the Customs Union and in any way similar to Belarus that the Russian dictator can boss around at his own discretion. Putin wants to write his name down in history as the “collector of Russian lands”. Does he realize the horror that inevitably follows the fulfillment of this pseudohistorical mission? Does anyone close to him realize that? Can those people influence anything? Can anyone influence Putin? We do not know the answers. We can just state the fact: millions of civilians all over Ukraine are hiding in the underground, bunkers, shelters, and cellars these days. Parents evacuate their children in panic, men are getting armed. Vladimir Putin called the invasion to Ukraine a ‘special military operation’. Why didn’t he declare a war? Why weaseling? The breakout of Russian warfare in Ukraine has evolved from an enormous lie, on which the national policy of Russia is based. This lie dictates the fate of the nations today.
Putin believes he is taking back the lost territories. In 2014, Putin saw his nightmare coming true: free people in Ukraine cheated by their coward president came out to the streets demanding to sign an Association agreement with the European Union. The massive protests known as ‘Maidan’ or ‘Euromaidan’ led to the change of government in Ukraine and dramatic shift in its foreign policy. After that, Kremlin invented Kyiv junta, Nazi coupe and bloodthirsty neo-Nazis who persecute the Russian-speaking population in Ukraine. Although those fantasies had nothing to do with reality, Putin used the hysteria created by his state-owned propaganda on TV to start a military operation against Ukraine.
Shortly after the success of ‘Euromaidan’ protests Russia annexed Crimea that was and remains the Ukrainian territory under the international law. Russian officials and Putin himself lied about the military operation of the Russian troops in Crimea stating that there were no Russian army involved in what looked like the occupation from day one. Now it only makes sense to tell the truth. The war in Ukraine, an unthinkable, monstrous war, is accompanied by a tremendous flood of fakes and disinformation generated by Russia. Propaganda troops received an order with a number of messages to bomb the audience with. Moscow is striving for ‘demilitarization and denazification’ of Ukraine. The last word is the novelty of the current war. On top of that, there is a good old well-tried statement that Russian propaganda insists on, namely that ‘Ukraine is bombing itself’ to create an image of a victim. Furthermore, the Ministry of Defense of Russia claims that Russian strikes target only military infrastructure in Ukraine and if anything happens to civilians, Kyiv is to blame. As for demilitarization demanded by Moscow, this evidently means securing a neutral status of Ukraine and the withdrawal of all weapons provided by the Western countries. Kyiv is ready for a compromise solution, according to the statements of its officials. However, there is a problem here. Any assurance from Zelenskyy is not enough for Putin. He is at the stage of ‘neck or nothing’.
