The Ukrainian Navy commented on the disaster of two Russian tankers “Volgoneft-212” and “Volgoneft-239” with oil products in the Kerch Strait on December 15.
The Ukrainian Navy reported this; “The Russian Federation has once again caused significant damage to the ecosystems of the Azov-Black Sea region and temporarily occupied Crimea.”
As noted by the Ukrainian Navy, “while the Russian authorities are trying to somehow organize a rescue operation from their “shadow fleet” ships, which are over half a century old, oil products are freely entering the open sea. In particular, it is known that there were more than 4 thousand tons of fuel oil on board “Volgoneft 212”.
The Ukrainian Navy recalled that “this is the second case when a tanker of the Kama Shipping company is sinking due to a hull failure. The previous one was the tanker “Volgoneft-139” – back in November 2007, during anchorage, it went under water in a few minutes.
In both cases, waves crashed into the hull and made a hole, then a crack appeared, the tanker split into two sides and sank.
“Relying on their own impunity and the weak reaction of international organizations to the crimes committed by the invaders, the Russians, even during their economic activities, pose a danger to shipping and death to ecosystems in the territories they occupy,” the Ukrainian Navy states.
