The Russians continue to exploit the natural resources of Berdyansk and other temporarily occupied territories of the Zaporizhzhia region.
This was reported by the Berdyansk city military administration.
The scale of the plunder of marine biological resources is causing serious concern to environmentalists and local residents.
The Russians are not limited to the export of agricultural products from the occupied lands. In recent years, they have significantly increased the catch of fish and other marine life in the waters of the Sea of Azov. According to data published by the occupation authorities, over the past three years, the volume of extraction of aquatic biological resources has increased by 2.7 thousand tons.
The figures for 2025 are especially impressive. In 2024, the occupation structures removed more than 11 thousand tons of fish and other marine life from the Sea of Azov. Among the species that suffered the most from overfishing were tulka, anchovy, goby, pelengas, flounder, as well as shrimp and rapana mollusks.
The situation is complicated by the recent environmental disaster that occurred in the waters of the Sea of Azov. As a result of the accident, a large-scale fuel oil spill occurred, which caused a mass death of marine life.
Residents of Berdyansk have repeatedly reported large numbers of dead fish on the city’s beaches. This event has significantly undermined the biodiversity of the marine environment and further exacerbated the need to preserve the surviving aquatic bioresources.
Despite the obvious threat to the ecosystem of the Sea of Azov, the Russians continue to intensively fish, disregarding the possible catastrophic consequences for the region’s unique marine fauna.
Such actions could lead to irreversible changes in the ecosystem of the Sea of Azov and jeopardize the future recovery of the biological diversity of this water basin.
