On the night of April 16, Russia attacked Odessa with strike drones. As a result of the attack, civilian infrastructure, residential buildings and warehouses were damaged, and fires broke out.
At least three victims are known. Details were reported by the mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, and the State Emergency Service.
Gennady Trukhanov reported the attack on the regional center at night, at 03:46.
“At night, the Russians carried out an attack on Odessa with strike drones. As a result, civilian infrastructure, residential buildings and warehouses were damaged,” Trukhanov noted.
Trukhanov said that immediately after the attack, emergency services began working at the sites of the hits. When they finish their work, utility crews will take over the case, which will eliminate the consequences of the attack and restore damaged facilities. In the morning, employees of the district administration will also join in.
Closer to 05:30, the State Emergency Service reported that there were casualties: according to preliminary information, three people were injured.
According to the Odessa Regional Prosecutor’s Office, two men and a woman were injured: a 66-year-old man with shrapnel wounds and a fracture was hospitalized, the others were provided with medical assistance on the spot.
“Fires broke out at several addresses – residential buildings were burning, warehouse buildings were damaged… Psychologists from the State Emergency Service and the police worked on the scene,” the rescuers specified.
The Odessa Regional Prosecutor’s Office noted as of 08:30 that “private residential buildings, warehouses of civilian enterprises, a pharmacy, a church and cars were damaged”.
“A full list of destruction and damage is being established. Prosecutors, in cooperation with other law enforcement officers, are documenting the consequences of Russian attacks… Under the procedural leadership of the Odessa Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a pre-trial investigation has been launched into the facts of war crimes (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine),” the report says.
