A Ukrainian Red Cross car was damaged as a result of Russian shelling of the Kherson region on August 9.
The Red Cross reported this.
At around 23:10 on August 9, near the location of the Red Cross rapid response unit in the Kherson region, the Russians opened fire. The hit damaged a Toyota Land Cruiser, which the volunteers were using to evacuate people. The volunteers also used the vehicle to deliver humanitarian aid and perform various tasks in the area of combat operations.
In addition, a Volkswagen Transporter ambulance was in the unit during the shelling. As a result of the attack, the vehicle’s wheel was damaged by debris.
Also, during the strike, a group of volunteers were in the unit’s premises, but in cover. Due to the aggression from the Russian Federation, none of the volunteers were injured.
“We categorically condemn the shelling of civilian infrastructure and transport clearly marked with the Red Cross emblem. Such actions are a direct violation of international humanitarian law. Despite the constant danger and daily shelling, volunteers of the Ukrainian Red Cross continue to fulfill their mission – to help the civilian population, save lives and support those in need,” the volunteers commented.
