Russian troops attacked the railway station in Shostka, Sumy region, with drones. Dozens of people were injured as a result of the attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyі said.
“A brutal Russian drone strike on the railway station in Shostka, Sumy region. All necessary services are already on site and have begun to provide assistance to people. All information about the victims is being clarified. As of now, dozens of people are already known to have been injured. Previously, both Ukrzaliznytsia employees and passengers were at the scene of the attack,” said President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyі.
He emphasized that the Russians could not have been unaware that they were attacking civilians. And this is terror that the world has no right to ignore.
The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine clarified that today at about 11:50 a.m., the Russians attacked a passenger train with a drone that was at the Shostka railway station awaiting departure.
A few minutes later, when passengers were being evacuated, another train was hit again by a drone.
“As a result of the Russian attack, as of 13:00, at least 8 people are known to have been hospitalized. Eight wounded have been taken to medical facilities, one person is in serious condition in intensive care.
Among the injured are three children aged 8, 11 and 14. The eldest child is a boy in moderate condition,” the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine reported.
Prosecutors, in cooperation with other law enforcement officers, are documenting the consequences of the attack. A pre-trial investigation is underway into the commission of war crimes (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Acting Head of the Shostka District Military Administration Oksana Tarasyuk said that about 30 people were injured in the Russian attack on the train in Shostka. The wounded were taken to the hospital, their number is being specified.
The Sumy region prosecutor’s office reported that the body of a 71-year-old man was found in one of the train cars destroyed by a Russian drone at the Shostka railway station. Law enforcement officers opened a case under Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – committing war crimes that caused the death of a person.
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that 7 people were injured as a result of the attack, including 3 children.
