Russians hit perinatal center in Sumy

On October 6, the roof of the Perinatal Center in Sumy caught fire as a result of a Russian attack with strike drones. At that time, more than one and a half hundred people, including children, were in the medical facility building, said the head of the presidential office, Andriy Yermak.

At the time of the attack, there were 166 people in the maternity hospital.

The explosion in Sumy occurred at around 11:30. Later, the chairman, Oleksandr Lysenko, reported that the Russians had targeted a drone strike on a medical facility building in the Kovpakiv district of Sumy.

“At the time of the attack, there were 166 people in the facility, including 11 children. All people were in shelters at the time of the attack. Preliminary, there were no casualties,” he wrote.

He stressed that the threat of repeated attacks by Russian drones on Sumy remained and urged residents to stay in shelters.

The Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Dmytro Lubinets, called the Russian drone strike on a maternity hospital in Sumy a manifestation of cruelty and cynicism.

“To strike a place where new life is emerging is to cross a line beyond which there is nothing human. Fortunately, no one was injured. Such strikes are not just crimes. They are moral devastation that has no justification. They reveal the true face of the aggressor — a state for which even the birth of a child can become a target of terror,” he wrote.

Lubinets emphasized that attacks on medical facilities are war crimes and must be punished accordingly.
