Russians in the temporarily occupied territory of Zaporizhzhia region are persecuting a resident of Berdyansk for publications on the Internet

In the temporarily occupied territory of Zaporizhzhia region, Russian security forces continue to use criminal prosecution as a tool to pressure local residents.

The next person in the Russian case was a 24-year-old resident of Berdyansk, whom the Russian prosecutor’s office charged with “calls for terrorist and extremist activities.”

According to the Russian investigative authorities, in August and September 2023, the man left comments on public Internet channels with calls for violence. In particular, the Russians claim that one of the messages contained a call for the murder of the Russian-appointed head of Zaporizhzhia region, and another – for violent actions against Russian children.

The Russian prosecutor’s office claims that linguistic examinations revealed wording in the publications that allegedly incited violent actions.

At the same time, the very fact of such cases in the temporarily occupied territory raises serious questions about the legality and objectivity of Russian “justice”. The Russians continue to extend their own repressive system to the residents of the occupied territories, using criminal charges to put pressure on people.

During the investigation, the man admitted his guilt and, as the Russians claim, facilitated the investigation.
