Seventh attack on Ukrainian gas facilities in October. Russians want to leave Ukrainians without heat

On the night of October 27-28, Russian troops again shelled civilian gas infrastructure in the Poltava region. This was reported by the chairman of the board of the National Joint-Stock Company “Naftogaz of Ukraine” Serhiy Koretsky.

According to Koretsky, there were no casualties. Experts are already working at the site of the attack: they are assessing the consequences and starting restoration work.

“This is the seventh targeted attack by the Russians on gas infrastructure since the beginning of October. The attacked facilities have no military significance. The only goal of these strikes is to leave Ukrainians without gas and heat,” said Serhiy Koretskyі.

Head of Energy Programs at the Ukrainian Institute for the Future Andrian Prokip said on October 27 that there is no region in Ukraine that can be considered “guaranteed to be protected” from energy risks. And the heating season this year directly depends on the possibility of importing gas, because in October part of Ukraine’s gas production facilities were damaged.

“We had accumulated the amount of gas that was considered sufficient to get through the winter. But due to the damage in October, production will decrease. The losses will have to be compensated for by imports. The key issue is money to pay for these imports,” Prokip explained.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyі said during a meeting with journalists on October 27 that, despite the shelling, the heating season will begin on October 28. The first to receive heat will be social institutions in many settlements.

According to the head of state, Ukraine has already secured approximately 70% of the funds for importing additional gas needed for a stable heating season.
