On the morning of Sunday, February 5, the Russian occupiers launched a rocket attack on the center of Kharkiv. As a result of the flight, five people were injured.
As reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office, under the procedural leadership of the Kyiv District Prosecutor’s Office of Kharkiv, a pre-trial investigation has been initiated in criminal proceedings for violation of the laws and customs of war (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, on February 5, 2023, at around 8:20 a.m., the Russian military launched a missile attack on the Kyiv district of Kharkiv.
One of the Russian missiles hit a five-story building in the central building of Beketov University and caused serious damage. The guard was wounded.
A second enemy rocket hit near a residential building. Four of its residents were injured.
As the mayor of Kharkiv Igor Terekhov reported, one of the S-300 missiles hit the building of the central building of the Kharkiv National University of Urban Economy named after O.M. Beketova. So far, 5 people have been injured.
According to preliminary information, the occupiers fired at Kharkiv with missiles of the S-300 type from the territory of the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation.
The documentation of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation was carried out by prosecutors together with the investigators of Kharkiv Regional Office of the National Police No. 1, the main department of the national police in the Kharkiv region.
Law enforcement officers are working at the site of both flights and are collecting the debris of the rockets.
Five people were injured in Kharkiv, after the Russians hit the city with S-300 missiles this morning. One hit a residential building in the middle of the city. Four residents were injured there, two of them were hospitalized. Another hit was recorded at the University of Urban Economy, the higher education building suffered significant destruction. The guard of the institution was injured by fragments of glass.
“Let’s lie down, it’s coming. Grandma! Everything will fall on you. In a few minutes, the second shot,” says a woman who was rescued from the rubble of her house, where the rocket hit.
A few hours after his arrival, Mr. Serhiy had already covered the windows of his apartment with film. Next door, Stanislav collects his parents’ belongings. The elderly mother and stepfather have already been taken out of the shattered home. “They are now in a safe place. Not wounded, alive. A miracle happened just out of fear. Mom was in the toilet, and stepfather was sleeping on the bed and it fell on him from above. The windows flew out. There were few people in this house of villas at the beginning of the war, only a few apartments. There was already an arrival here. Not in this house, but nearby,” he says.
On Sunday morning, people leave their homes with suitcases and packages. They take everything they can get their hands on and look for shelter for the night. After all, it is impossible to live here without windows and communications. A burst from an enemy missile is just under the windows. The Russians hit the facade. “There is destruction, but there is no threat of landslides. And now our specialists will examine. We have the opportunity to move people who want to live in dormitories, we will place them in dormitories,” says the chairman Ihor Terekhov.
“The facade of this building is partially damaged. And also neighboring residential buildings. Windows and facades of these buildings were also damaged. Garbage was burning in the basement, as well as a car parked next to these buildings,” the rescuers added.
The second rocket hit the University of Urban Economy, causing the fifth and fourth floors to collapse. At the time of the explosion, there was only a security guard in the building. He was scared and scratched. “This is a brick structure of the building, hollow ceilings. We will see in what condition. We know how to do it. In total, we have 13, 2 more, and it is already 15 hits. Only 2 dormitories remained, which today can be operated from 8. The situation is difficult, but I am an optimist – we will do everything. And we will defeat this bastard,” assures the rector of the institution, Volodymyr Babaev.
Law enforcement officers are working at the site of both flights and are collecting the debris of the rockets. “According to the preliminary data of explosives technicians, these were exactly S-300 missiles. “Criminal proceedings have already been opened for part 1 of Article 438 of violation of the laws and customs of war,” the police say.
In the near future, experts will examine the damaged buildings, and it will become clear later whether everything destroyed can be restored.
As a result of shelling, houses and infrastructure were damaged.
Last day, the Russian occupiers shelled the settlements of the Kharkiv, Kupyan and Chuguyiv districts, located near the contact line. Strikes were carried out with artillery and mortars. This was announced by the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration Oleg Synegubov.
“In general, multi-apartment buildings, private houses, infrastructure facilities, office premises and cars were damaged,” Synegubov said.
On February 4, the invaders attacked Kupiansk. As a result of shelling, the administration building of the medical facility and private residential buildings were damaged. Vovchansk was also under fire, where residential buildings and commercial buildings were damaged.
In the Kharkiv region, Russian troops looted and detonated a school. Natalia Bagach, director of the educational institution, told about the destruction of the primary school in the village of Makarove, Bogodukhiv district.
The border with the Russian Federation is about ten kilometers from Makarovo. The village was occupied from April to September. Before the full-scale invasion, 30 children studied in the village school. Russian soldiers took out chairs, children’s mattresses and blankets and took them to the trenches. At the end of May, the school came under fire and was destroyed. The occupiers did not let people into the school building. The surrounding area was mined.
Local authorities say that there are no plans to rebuild the school in the near future: the hostilities are not over yet, and the renovated building may collapse again. Repairs after the war will depend on money.
Russian troops also caused significant damage to Kharkov’s educational institutions. On February 5, the educational building of the Beketov Kharkiv University of Urban Economy was hit by a rocket. A house on Marshala Bazhanov Street was partially destroyed. This university is one of the most affected in the country. Shelling damaged almost all of its administrative and educational buildings and student dormitories.
The buildings of Karazin Kharkiv National University were repeatedly bombed. A Russian rocket also damaged the building of the Pedagogical University on Valentinivska Street.
In addition to universities in Kharkiv itself, Russian rockets and projectiles damaged 109 schools and 110 kindergartens.
