UNESCO analyzes the damage caused by Russian attacks on the Odesa Observatory
UNESCO has begun a technical examination and monitoring of the damage caused by Russian missile strikes to the Odesa Astronomical Observatory. This was announced by the Head of the UNESCO Office in Ukraine, Chiara Deci Bardeschi, during a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Head of the National Commission of Ukraine for UNESCO, Mariana Betsa.
During the meeting, Chiara Deci Bardeschi reported on the following important aspects: the start of a detailed technical analysis of the nature and scale of the destruction caused by the missile attacks of the Russian military forces; the organization of continuous monitoring of the condition of the buildings and equipment of the astronomical observatory; interaction with Ukrainian state bodies and international structures to ensure an adequate response to the situation. In this way, UNESCO records the facts of the destruction of cultural and scientific objects that cause damage to Ukraine as a result of military aggression. These actions are aimed at supporting the country in the restoration of scientific heritage objects damaged by hostilities.
