Shelling of Sumy region: two policemen were killed, six were injured

On February 27, the Russians launched an artillery attack on the Khotyn village community. As a result of the shelling, two employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were killed. They came under artillery fire in the Khotyn community. This was reported in the Sumy Regional Military Administration.

According to the information of the regional military administration, the Russians fired artillery at the settlement, which had already been attacked on February 27. As a result of the attack, two policemen were killed and six others were injured.

The press service of the main department of the National Police in Sumy region reported that the Russians struck when a group of investigators was inspecting the scene and recording the consequences of shelling that had been fired the day before in the village of Khotyn. The department also noted that 2 lieutenant colonels were fatally injured.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Oksana Volodymyrivna Novik, head of the Department of Investigation of Crimes Committed in the Armed Conflict of the Investigative Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Sumy Oblast, received non-life-threatening injuries.

Police lieutenant colonel Oleg Mykolayovych Yurko, deputy chief of police department No. 4 (Sumy) of the Sumy district police department – head of the investigative department – was also fatally injured.

The National Police specified the number of victims. According to the law enforcement agency, six police officers were injured and all of them were hospitalized.

The Prosecutor General’s Office reported that, under the procedural leadership of the Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a pre-trial investigation is being conducted into the fact of violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional killings (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
