The Russian occupiers captured Kherson and almost the entire Kherson region at the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, in February – March 2022.

In November, the defense forces of Ukraine liberated the right-bank part of the Kherson region, together with the regional center, from the Russian occupiers

After that, the Russians began systematically shelling Kherson and other liberated settlements in the region.

According to city council data, as of February 12, since November 20, Kherson and its suburbs have been shelled 1,991 times. 80 people died, 222 were injured, the city council added.

The Russians actively militarize children in the occupied part of the Kherson region: they teach them to shoot with military weapons

The Russian occupiers are actively militarizing children in the temporarily occupied part of the Kherson region. In addition to being ideologically processed by Russian propaganda, local schoolchildren under the leadership of the Russian military are taught to use combat weapons, which they, in the future, must use against Ukrainian citizens.

On February 17, the Tavria newspaper, controlled by the occupiers, published a video from the training ground, in which Kherson schoolchildren participate in training shootings together with the Russian military.

“Schoolchildren and students are currently undergoing combat training here. They are taught to shoot, they are taught to load weapons and use certain tactical techniques,” said Serafim Ivanov, head of the “regional headquarters” of the Russian youth organization “Unarmia” in the Kherson region, in an interview with Tavria.

In addition to Kalashnikov assault rifles, young Kherson residents were also given the opportunity to shoot sniper rifles and machine guns. The Russians organized “military training” for both boys and girls.

According to the video, some of them appear to be 12-13 years old, that is, they are not even teenagers, but children.

Local collaborators, such as, for example, the fake “Afghan”, the head of the “Fighting Brotherhood” of the Kherson Region, Ihor Telegin, joined the exercises.

“As our commanders used to say, you have to become one with the weapon. So that you feel it like a violinist. This is how a soldier should feel about his weapon,” Telegin shared his lack of combat experience.

Russian journalists state that “safety equipment at these exercises is above all” and note that for the protection of Kherson schoolchildren they were given… headphones. The video really shows that teenagers, in the conditions of working with combat weapons, have neither body armor nor protective helmets, unlike the Russian military.

The shootings themselves were preceded by mass “visits” of Russians to educational institutions in the occupied part of the Kherson region. But if at that time the weapons were only demonstrated to teenagers, then at shooting ranges they were already taught their practical use. Of course, such “training” is also accompanied by ideological work with young people. First of all, children from the Kherson region are told against whom they should use these weapons, if necessary, that is, against Ukrainians.

To speed up the pace of militarization of Kherson youth, the occupiers plan to open so-called “Suvorov cadet classes” at the base of every school in the occupied territories, as well as create “Unarmy” cells in every educational institution.

By conducting such events, the Russians promote militaristic ideas among local children and involve them in military exercises, which is a gross violation of the norms of international humanitarian law.

In the occupied part of the Kherson region, the Russians created a regional branch of their military-patriotic movement “Unarmia”. Seraphim Ivanov, a Russian, was appointed as the head of the Kherson regional headquarters of “Unarmy”.

13 attacks per day: the occupiers shelled the houses of civilians in Kherson and hit a dormitory

On February 18, the Russian army opened fire on Kherson and the region with MLRS, mortars, artillery, tanks and UAVs.

The invaders shelled the territory of the Kherson community. The Ostriv microdistrict and the city center were under fire.

The shells hit private and apartment buildings.

In buildings, windows were broken and roofs were destroyed. Fortunately, there were no casualties.

Shells also damaged power lines. In particular, there is a hit to the gas pipeline. Utility workers worked at the sites of shelling.

People tried to immediately cover the broken windows and roofs with OSB slabs or other building materials.

It will be recalled that one person was killed and three others were injured as a result of enemy shelling in the Kherson region on February 17.

“Extortion” of property, looting and disappearance of people: Pletenchuk told what is happening in the occupied Kherson Region

The Russian occupiers are acting arbitrarily in the Kherson region and taking people’s property. The head of the press service of the “Thunder” tactical group, captain-lieutenant Dmytro Pletenchuk, told about it.

According to him, the invaders also kidnap people and children.

“The worst thing on the left bank is what is happening there, what happened during the occupation of Kherson. In general, it should be noted that even the Russians themselves, during the occupation of Kherson, issued an order according to which their military could not enter the city of Kherson unnecessarily, because they had to keep the “asvabaditeley stamp”.

In contrast to settlements outside the city. And there, as always, the same thing happens: “extortion” of residential premises, robberies, disappearance of people, rape, kidnapping and similar things that they do in the interests of “Russia”, Pletenchuk said.

The Ukrainian military liberated Kherson from the Russian invaders on November 11. The city has been under occupation since the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation. After leaving the city, the occupiers shelled Kherson daily.
