Since the first occupation of the territories in 2014, the population of Luhansk region has shrunk by almost half and is said to be 1.5 million people.
This was reported by the Center of National Resistance with reference to the statements of representatives of the “LPR” group.
The Center of National Resistance drew attention to the fact that, according to the aggressors’ statements, the population of the temporarily occupied part of Luhansk region is about 1.5 million people.
If the figure announced by the Russians is true, it means a 40% reduction in the region’s population since 2014.
At the same time, the tendency to decrease the population of Luhansk region continues.
The Center of National Resistance noted that the depopulation of the region is accompanied by deportation and forced mobilization of the local population, as well as resettlement of Russians from the territory of the Russian Federation.
According to data from open sources, as of 2012, the population of Luhansk region was 2.3 million people.
At the same time, 466,000 people lived in Luhansk, 125,000 in Khrustalny (Red Ray), 120,000 each in Lysychansk and Severodonetsk, and slightly more than 112,000 people lived in Alchevsk.
At the beginning of October, the “LPR” group announced that there were about 200 residents left in occupied Popasnaya.
Before the start of the full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, the population of the city was almost 20 thousand people.
It is noted that the depopulation of the region is accompanied by settlement by Russians, brainwashing of children and mass mobilization of ethnic Ukrainians for war against their native state.
At the same time, the Russians are actively deporting the population under the guise of evacuation and conducting a filtering policy, when people are forcibly removed from villages, the Center of National Resistance notes.
The Center of National Resistance emphasizes that such actions by the Russians are a war crime according to the Roman Statute.
Everyone involved will be punished for this, because the de-occupation of the region is a matter of time, – the Center of National Resistance adds.
