Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has committed 950 crimes against the media and journalists in Ukraine

In the four years and three months since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has committed 950 crimes against journalists and the media in Ukraine. This is evidenced by the monitoring data of the Institute of Mass Information.

Only for the period from April 24 to May 24, 2026, the Institute of Mass Information recorded 13 new cases, including destruction and damage to the property of editorial offices, cybercrimes and legal pressure.

In April-May, it became known about the death of two media workers who defended Ukraine from Russian aggression:

Viktoria Bobrova – a servicewoman and casting director of the TV channel “2+2”. She was the acting head of the communications department of the 10th separate mountain assault brigade “Edelweiss”. She died on April 23 in the area of ​​\u200b\u200bcombat missions.

Oleksandr Klymenko is a military serviceman, cameraman and director from Poltava. Until 2020, he worked as an editing director on the Poltava TV channels “Misto” and “Tsentralny”. In mid-2024, he did not return from a combat mission. On April 30 of this year, DNA examination identified his body among the returned fallen soldiers.

Over the past month, the Institute of Mass Information has recorded ten cases of destruction and damage to Ukrainian editorial offices. These include, in particular, the newspaper “Obrii Izyumshchyny” in the Kharkiv region, the publication “20 Minutes” in Ternopil and the branch “Suspilne Zaporizhzhia”.

The Institute of Mass Information also reported that the editorial office of the Sumy online media “Kordon.Media” had windows broken eight times during 2025 due to Russian attacks on the city. The most damage was caused by strikes by drones of various types.

Six cases of damage to editorial offices relate to the Russian attack that took place on the night of May 24. Then, in Kyiv, the offices of Realnaya Gazeta, Graty media, Shelter media, UNIAN agencies, as well as German broadcasters DW and ARD were damaged as a result of shelling.

Among other things, the Institute of Mass Information recorded two cybercrimes. The first case concerns a hacker attack on the internal communication system of the FreeDom TV channel. The second is the hacking of the Blogs section on the Ukrainska Pravda website.

Another case concerned legal pressure. Russia sentenced the administrator of the Ukrainian Telegram channel Melitopol is Ukraine, Oleksandr Malyshev, to 26 years in a strict regime colony.

From March 24 to April 24, 2026, the Institute of Mass Information recorded nine crimes by Russia against the media and journalists in Ukraine. Among them are shelling of journalists, destruction and damage to editorial offices, cybercrimes, and legal pressure.
