Russia’s environmental crimes in Ukraine have gone far beyond state borders.
This was emphasized by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Svitlana Grynchuk in New York at the exhibition of testimonies of Ukrainians about environmental crimes of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources reports.
According to her, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Russians have committed more than 6,000 crimes against the environment. And this is not taking into account crimes committed from 2014 to February 2022.
The consequences of this war for the environment went far beyond our national borders. The war has already led to significant emissions of greenhouse gases. As of today, this is already 180 million tons of CO2. The United States is among the countries that are the first to bear the brunt of climate change. We have to stick together – both in confronting the aggressor and in confronting climate change, Grynchuk said.
The Minister thanked the American people for their support of Ukraine and for their invaluable contribution to drawing the world’s attention to the ecological consequences of hostilities.
The event took place in the building of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York. More than 100 diplomats, artists, other residents and guests of New York visited the international exhibition.
