The Russians are attacking the Ukrainian military not only with traditional means of fire. They are also systematically using dangerous chemical substances that have an irritating effect against the Armed Forces of Ukraine. During March of this year alone, there were over 400 such cases.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports this.
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, more than 13 thousand cases of the use of dangerous chemical substances against the Defense Forces of Ukraine have been recorded. For such attacks, the Russians use gas grenades of the K-51 and RG-Vo types. In addition, improvised containers are equipped with CS and CN substances. They are dropped from drones.
“Most often, such means are used on the positions of the Defense Forces of Ukraine in order to force personnel to leave cover and gain a tactical advantage in the areas of concentration of main efforts,” the General Staff notes.
The use of such substances is prohibited by the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. In peacetime, CS and CN can be used by law enforcement to control riots. However, their use in combat conditions is illegal.
These substances are not deadly. However, they cause severe irritation of the eyes and respiratory tract, tearing, coughing, disorientation, suffocation, and temporary loss of combat capability.
Such attacks by the Russians become more intense in the spring and summer. Therefore, the General Staff predicts an increase in the number of chemical substances in the future.
