Situation update as of 6 a.m., May 8, 2023

On the night of 8 May 2023, the enemy attacked the territory of Ukraine again, using Iranian Shahed combat UAVs. 35x of 35x drones were intercepted by Ukrainian defenders.

Continuing its terror tactics, russia launched 16x missile strikes during the day of May 7, its targets included the cities of Kharkiv, Kherson, Mykolaiv, and Odesa oblasts. In addition, the 61x air strikes and 52x MLRS attacks at the positions of Ukrainian troops and various settlements were reported. Unfortunately, the attacks have killed and wounded civilians, damaged a multi-storey building, private residential buildings, and other civilian infrastructure.

The likelihood of further russian missile and air strikes across Ukraine remains high.

The adversary focuses its main efforts on Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Mar’inka axes. Heavy fighting for the cities of Bakhmut and Mar’inka continues. During the day of May 7, Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 55x enemy attacks in these areas of the frontline.

Volyn and Polissya axes: enemy no signs of the formation of offensive groups were found.

Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna axes: the adversary continues to maintain military presence in the areas of russia bordering Ukraine. During the day of May 7, the enemy carried out air strikes at the vicinities of settlements of Zarichchya, Leonivka, Kostobobriv (Chernihiv oblast), and Hlukhiv in Sumy oblast. The invaders shelled mortars and artillery at Orlykivka, Tymonovychi, Zarichchya, Bleshnya, Zaliznyi Mist, Arkhypivka, Leonivka, Buchky (Chernihiv oblast), Stara Huta, Seredyna-Buda, Bachivs’k, Ulanove, Vorozhba, Iskryskivshchyna, Novhorodske (Sumy oblast), Udy, Vovchans’k, Pletenivka, Bochkove, Mala Vovcha, Nesterne, Budarky, and Stroivka (Kharkiv oblast).

Kup’yans’k axis: the adversary did not conduct any offensive operations. The adversary launched air strikes at the vicinities of settlements of Hryanykivka and Vil’shana. The invaders fired artillery and mortars at the settlements of Krasne Pershe, Fyholivka, Novomlyns’k, Zapadne, Lyman Pershyi, Berestove (Kharkiv oblast), Novoselivs’ke, and Stel’makhivka (Luhansk oblast).

Lyman axis: during the day of May 7, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensives towards the Spirne. The occupant forces launched air strikes at the vicinities of settlements of Bilohorivka (Luhansk oblast), Tors’ke, and Spirne (Donetsk oblast). Stel’makhivka, Makiivka, Nevs’ke (Luhansk oblast), Bilohorivka, and Spirne (Donetsk oblast) were shelled with artillery.

Bakhmut axis: the enemy continues its offensive operations.

Fighting continues in the city of Bakhmut, the occupiers shelled the city with incendiary and phosphorus ammunition. During the day of May 7, the adversary conducted unsuccessful offensives towards Khromove, Ivanivske, Chasiv Yar, and Stupochky. The invaders launched air strikes at the vicinities of settlements of Bakhmut, Bohdanivka, Kurdyumivka, and New York. Zaliznyanske, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Novomarkove, Markove, Bakhmut, Ivanivske, Chasiv Yar, Stupochky, Oleksandro-Shul’tyne, and Leonidivka (Donetsk oblast) suffered from enemy shelling.

Avdiivka axis: during the day of of May 7, the adversary conducted offensive operations in the vicinities of Avdiivka and Pervomais’ke, to no success. The invaders shelled the settlements of Keramik, Novokalynove, Ocheretyne, Berdychi, Avdiivka, Vodyane, Pervomais’ke, Nevel’s’ke, Netaylove, Karlivka, and Hostre (Donetsk oblast).

Mar’inka axis: Ukrainian defenders repelled numerous enemy attacks in the vicinity of the city of Mar’inka. At the same time, the settlements of Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Kurakhove, and Pobjeda (Donetsk oblast) were shelled by the enemy.

Shakhtars’ke axis: the enemy did not conduct any offensive operations. The invaders shelled the settlements of Novomykhailivka, Katerynivka, Yelyzavetivka, Vuhledar, Pavlivka, Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, Novoukrainka, Shakhtars’ke, and Velyka Novosilka (Donetsk oblast).

Zaporizhzhia and Kherson axes: the adversary continues to defend. The occupant forces launched air strikes at the vicinities of Vremivka (Donetsk oblast), Hulyaipole, and Novodanylivka (Zaporizhzhia oblast). The invaders also shelled more than 50x settlements, including Poltavka, Charivne, Novoandriivka (Zaporizhzhia oblast), Zmiivka, Prydniprovs’ke, Romashkove, Yantarne, Kizomys, Sofiivka, Stanislav (Kherson oblast), and the city of Kherson.

The russian occupiers are conducting the so-called evacuation of locals from the temporarily occupied Tokmak (Zaporizhzhia oblast) towards the settlement of Berdyans’k. Representatives of the so-called local “authorities”, collaborators, children, teachers, and kindergartners are to undergo this procedure. At the same time, the parents are threatened with not having their children’s school year registered if they refuse to “evacuate” them.

There are queues for fuel at gas stations, and all drivers have been informed that no new fuel supplies are planned.

In the settlement of Vesele (Zaporizhzhia oblast), the local police department of the enemy is closed and does not function. According to reports, this institution’s documentation was destroyed the day before.

During the day of May 7, the Ukrainian Air Force launched 8x air strikes on the concentrations of troops and military equipment of the adversary, as well as 1x air strike on the anti-aircraft missile system of the enemy.

Also, Ukrainian defenders intercepted 2x combat and 6x reconnaissance UAVs of the adversary.

The Ukrainian missile and artillery troops units hit 2x command posts, 2x concentrations of weapons and military equipment of the occupiers, as well as 3x ammunition depots of the enemy.
