Soil contamination damage from hostilities in the Zaporizhzhia region exceeds 33 billion hryvnias

The State Inspectorate has calculated the damage caused to soil cover in the Zaporizhzhia region by shelling and destruction.

The Inspectorate is calculating losses resulting from soil contamination and debris accumulation caused by hostilities in the Zaporizhzhia region.

As of early September 2026, the damage is estimated at 33 billion 164 million hryvnias, the State Ecological Inspectorate of the Southern District reported on September 29.

Significant areas of the Zaporizhzhia region have been littered with munitions fragments and debris from the destruction of buildings and structures, and the soil cover has also been contaminated.
