Stolen paintings from the Kherson region will be transported to Simferopol

Stolen paintings from the Kherson Museum of Local Lore will be transported to the Tavrida Central Museum in Simferopol, the Russian Ministry of Culture of the Kherson Region announced.

“Exhibits are under supervision, with all technical requirements for storage,” the message said.

Earlier, the Russian mass media reported that part of the collection of local history and art museums of Kherson, stolen by the Russian military last fall, is in Henichesk.

Also, the Kherson Museum received a photo from the Tavrida Central Museum in temporarily occupied Simferopol. However, this photo showed only a part of the painting, so the identification process was complicated. Museum workers from Kherson deformed the visible part of the painting in a graphic editor and compared it to the original.

Thanks to this, it became known that the painting “Seascape” (Off the Coast of Greece) by an unknown artist (1907) is now in Simferopol.

Russians stole it in November 2022.

According to the Ukrainian Center of National Resistance, in total, the Russians took about 15,000 paintings from the Kherson region.
