Strike on grain storage, a hospital, and homes: Russians launch massive attack on Odesa region; one dead and others injured

On the evening of September 26 and the night of September 27, Russian forces launched a massive strike on Odesa and the southern part of the Odesa region. One person was killed and two others were injured in the Russian attack. Russian strikes caused extensive damage to both industrial facilities and civilian structures across several districts of the region:

A production workshop, warehouse facilities (including a grain storage unit), and trucks were damaged. A massive fire broke out at the impact site.

In another district, strikes damaged a hospital building, the façade and windows of a hotel, a non-food retail store, and a two-story residential building.

The State Emergency Service emphasized that a higher civilian casualty toll was averted thanks to adherence to safety protocols: most employees at the facility were in a shelter when the air raid alert sounded.

Emergency response operations were conducted under difficult conditions. Due to the threat of follow-up strikes by Russia, rescue workers were forced to temporarily withdraw to safe locations before resuming firefighting efforts.

In total, more than 140 rescue workers were deployed to deal with the aftermath of the attack.
