Surrounded and shot: Russians execute 5 Ukrainian soldiers in Donetsk region

Near the village of Petrivka, in Donetsk region, Russian troops shot Ukrainian prisoners of war.

This was reported by the Donetsk regional prosecutor’s office.

According to materials from Ukrainian law enforcement agencies, on November 13, the Russians stormed the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the Petrivka area of Pokrovsky district.

5 fighters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were forced to retreat, taking cover in one of the houses. Later, the Russians surrounded the building.

Representatives of the Russian army took them prisoner and forced them, unarmed, to come out of the shelter and lie on the ground. After that, the Russians shot the defenders with automatic weapons.

A criminal case has been opened into the fact of committing a war crime that caused the death of people. Currently, investigators are establishing all the circumstances, the identities of the deceased, and are looking for those involved in the execution.

The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets reported that he had sent letters to international organizations, in particular, the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross, asking them to record this crime committed by Russian troops.

“I emphasize once again that the killing of prisoners of war is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and qualifies as a grave international crime!”, – Lubinets noted, calling on the international community to immediately respond to this incident.

This is not the first time that Ukraine has accused the Russian military of committing war crimes during Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine. Earlier, it was reported that the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine is investigating the executions of 177 Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russians.
