The activist announced a large-scale environmental disaster as a result of the shelling of an oil depot in Kharkiv

In Kharkiv, a large volume of oil products got into the Nemyshlia, Lopan and Udy rivers.

In Kharkiv, as a result of the Russian shelling of a civilian oil depot on February 9, there was a large-scale leakage of oil products into rivers and soil, which caused an environmental disaster in the city.

Artem Prykhodko, a volunteer, eco-activist, organizer of the “Clean Udy”, “Trash Killer” and “To People from People” projects, said this.

He noted that he does not have official examination data, but he saw the situation with his own eyes at the scene. The activist noted that since the evening of February 9, when the Russians fired at the tanks, oil products have been leaking into water, groundwater and soil for three days.

Prykhodko emphasized that there are still puddles of diesel on the streets near the crash site. All petroleum products, together with melted snow, flow through storm sewers and several streams to the Nemyshlia River and further downstream.

“All this continues to flow for the third day, and even now. It all fell into the Nemyshlyansky quarry from one side, the quarry was not completely damaged, only in the place where the water with oil products was flowing. Further, the entire Nemyshlya River, all of Lopan from the entrance of the Nemyshlya River. Later today at 8 in the morning, I was informed that our interceptor is already full of oil products on the Udy River. And already, I understand, judging by the speed of the current, these oil products are already in the Siverskyi Donka,” said the eco-activist.

He emphasized that at this time the Kharkiv water intake is not in danger. “There won’t be any problems with water intake. But I emphasize and now I’m trying to tell everyone about it so that people understand. The springs located in Nemyshla, you can’t drink water from them under any circumstances. Wells at the disaster site and nearby – I wouldn’t advise use water,” he said.

Prykhodko also expressed his belief that the most popular sources of water in Kharkiv – Sarzhyn Yar and sources on Saltivka – are not threatened.

Birds, beavers (a large population on Udy), muskrats and fish on the Nemyshlya, Udy, Lopan and Siverskyi Donets rivers will be affected by the leakage of oil products.

“All the inhabitants of the reservoir feed and live in the water. Of course, they will be affected 100%, they will be poisoned. Only those with the strongest immunity will survive. An hour ago, I was already informed that there are already dead ducks in Nemyshla. In Lopan, where there are winter flocks of ducks, they are completely gone. That is, Lopan is without birds at all. They either migrated, realized that something was wrong, or, this is the worst option, they have already died and are lying somewhere in piles,” Prykhodko said.

He expressed regret that nothing was done to stop the leakage of oil products on the Nemyshlia River.

“This is an ecological disaster!” Prykhodko concluded.

He noted that there is special equipment and reagents for collecting oil products on water, but the activist does not know whether this equipment is in Kharkiv. This should be done by the State Emergency Service.

Russian “Shakhedеs” struck the Nemyshlyan district of Kharkiv in the evening of February 9. According to the police, the drones targeted the civilian fuel storage of one of the gas station operators, which stored about 3.8 thousand tons of petroleum products. The ignited fuel mixed with the snow and spread through the neighborhood. The largest mass spilled out onto Kotelna Street, which is located in the lowlands. The area of the fire was 3,700 square meters.

7 people died, including young parents and their three children aged 7 and 4, as well as about 10 months. Three citizens were injured.

According to the Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko, the bodies of 5 people, including three children, were found in one of the private houses. Two more people died at another facility.

Later, the investigators established that the eldest son and the baby were near the mother, the woman was holding them in her arms. The middle son was with his father. When the man passed out, the boy was left alone in the kitchen. His body was found there. Parents and children found themselves in a fiery trap.
