Oleksandr Babich, the chairman of Holaya Prystan (Kherson region), has been in captivity for two years – the Russians kidnapped him on March 28, 2022.
This was reported by the Holopristan City Military Administration: “Holopristan Mayor Oleksandr Babich has been in captivity for two years…on March 28, 2022, he was cynically kidnapped directly from his home by the Russians, and he is still in captivity of the Russian Federation under psychological and physical pressure.”
As the city military administration was reminded, after the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion and occupation of the Kherson region for a month, the head of the Holopristan urban territorial community Oleksandr Babych continued to fulfill his duties and take care of the city and the community’s villages. In order to prevent looting and sabotage, he organized patrols of Holaya Prystan, despite the presence of Russian armored personnel carriers with armed military personnel, responded to citizens’ appeals, and organized the delivery of products to stores that were running low on supplies.
The chairman stayed with the community in the city until the end and did not betray the country, his community, his ideals, values, principles, patriotism and conscience.
“For the residents of the Holopristan urban territorial community, he is an example of a true patriot of his country,” the city’s military administration emphasized.
It is noted that in order to support the chairman imprisoned by the Russian occupiers, the residents of the community, who are in the controlled territory, repeatedly gathered at rallies and took part in actions in support of civilian prisoners who are currently in Russian prisons for their patriotic beliefs, declaring to Ukrainians and the whole world about the brazen violation of international human rights by the Russian Federation, calling for active actions to release kidnapped Ukrainian patriots in the occupied territories.
On March 28, 2022, in the city of Gola Prystan in the Kherson region, the Russian military of the chairman Oleksandr Babich conducted searches in the city.
Among those held by the Russians is the Spanish volunteer Mariano García Calatayuda, known as Mario. He was transported from Kherson, where he was detained, to Crimea. The Russians are also illegally detaining Oleksandr Babich, chairman of Holaya Prystani, without charge.
