The city of Oleshki in the Kherson region without water and medicine: Russians block people’s departure

The city of Oleshki Kherson region and nearby settlements in the occupied territory of the Russian Federation in the Kherson region remain without proper access to water, food, and medical care, and the Russians do not allow people to leave the danger zone.

According to the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Lubinets, the situation in Oleshki, Holya Prystan, Starya Zbur’ivka and Novaya Zbur’ivka in the Kherson region is critical. The Russian occupiers block people’s departure and prevent the supply of basic goods and medicines.

In total, more than 6 thousand people may need humanitarian assistance, among them about 200 children, Lubinets emphasized.

He also reported that he had appealed to the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, Tatyana Moskalkova, regarding the need to organize a safe evacuation of the civilian population. The International Committee of the Red Cross informed the Ukrainian Ombudsman of its readiness to facilitate the adoption of the necessary measures.

Ukraine has submitted to the International Committee of the Red Cross a generalized list of people who need assistance, including evacuation, noted Dmytro Lubinets.

On May 6, the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported that in some areas of the occupied territories of the Kherson region, due to crimes committed by the Russians, who violate international law, the humanitarian situation has worsened. Critical infrastructure there has been virtually destroyed, and electricity and gas supplies are absent.
