A serious threat has arisen at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), as representatives of Rosatom, illegally staying on its territory, are actively recruiting personnel with insufficient qualifications.
Their actions include stealing key elements of security systems and stealing valuable computer equipment. Unfortunately, the emergency preparedness and response system at the ZNPP almost completely failed due to the actions of the occupiers.
The press service of the State Nuclear Regulatory Commission reported that the occupying “administration” blocked the transmission of information from the Automated System for Monitoring the Radiation Situation (ASCRO) of the Zaporizhzhia NPP. Ukraine has informed the IAEA about this problem, but has not yet received a response regarding the Agency’s planned measures to resolve the situation.
Among other criminal acts, the Russian invaders put irresistible pressure on the personnel of the ZNPP. In particular, they conduct searches in the personal premises of station employees. In addition, they prohibit communication with people who are in the territories controlled by Ukraine. The exit of people from the occupied zone is blocked, threatening to confiscate property.
Changing the situation for the better and repairing the nuclear safety systems at the ZNPP will be possible only when the power plant is completely deoccupied and demilitarized. This will require significant effort and resources. However, there is simply no other way.
Earlier, we also reported that the occupation of the ZNPP could lead to a global catastrophe.
