The enemy shelled Zaporizhzhia at night: residential buildings were damaged

As a result of the flight, industrial buildings were destroyed and a fire broke out at the infrastructure object.

On the night of January 4, Russian-fascist troops shelled Zaporizhzhia.

Oleksandr Starukh, the head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, announced this.

According to him, as a result of the flight, industrial buildings were destroyed and a fire broke out at the infrastructure object. Firefighters have already effectively extinguished the fire.

“Nearby residential buildings were also damaged. The city’s rescue and utility services are working on the spot,” he said.

Another missile attack on Zaporizhzhia: liquidation of the consequences continues

The enemy used S-300 missiles. They hit the suburbs, a fire broke out at the point of impact, two warehouses were destroyed and nearby residential buildings were damaged. It is known that one person was injured. The consequences of the attack are still being eliminated by the city’s utility services and rescuers.

The large funnel from the S-300 on the carriageway of the road next to the residential building is already half-filled. But the car, which was standing on the side of the road, was completely crushed. It also happened to nearby residential buildings. The blast wave affected the five-story building the most, there is almost no surviving window in the building. Mrs. Nataliya shows her apartment, all the broken windows helped her to remove the city rescuers. The situation is the same with her neighbors.

“Our windows were broken, everything was knocked out on the balcony,” says the woman. – People panicked here, cried, screamed. There was such a wave that I was shaken from the sofa. Then I rushed to get the phone, because the phone was on the bed – there was another explosion.”

While the law enforcement officers record the consequences of the enemy attack, the windows and balconies have already begun to be sewn up with OSB plates and polycarbonate. These materials are immediately cut to size in the yard.

Two residential buildings nearby were also damaged. While the restoration work continues, the city authorities have set up a tent nearby where you can get hot drinks and refreshments.

Meanwhile, utility workers remove the landing from the branch broken by the explosion.

The restoration work is planned to be completed as soon as possible, because cold weather is ahead. Also, a special commission created by the city authorities works at the place of “arrival”, which records all the damage, so that people can later receive financial assistance from the state.

Rosatom is trying to take the occupied ZNPP under full control

Earlier, Rosatom started implementing its own monitoring system on the territory of the captured Ukrainian nuclear power plant.

In January, the occupiers plan to appoint Dmytro Minyaev, the deputy director of the special security department of the Rosenergoatom Concern Joint Stock Company (a subsidiary of Rosatom), to the position of deputy director of the Zaporizhzhіa NPP for physical protection. This was reported by the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets.

Earlier, Rosatom started implementing its own monitoring system on the territory of the seized Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. The works are performed by Russian experts from “Consist-OS”, which is part of the structure of the occupation energy operator. This was reported by the Center of National Resistance.

Russia ignores IAEA requests. Since March 4, 2022, the Zaporizhia NPP has been occupied by the Russian occupation administration. Starting in the summer of 2022, “Rosatom” is carrying out the incorporation of the ZNPP.

It will be recalled that at the beginning of December, the occupiers announced the appointment of a new “director” at the ZNPP, who agreed to “sign a contract.” It is about the former “chief engineer” Yury Chernychuk.

Ukraine called on the UN to send in peacekeepers to protect the ZNPP without Russia’s agreement

In March 2022, the ZNPP was occupied by the Russian military and has been operating under their control ever since.

Ukraine called on the United Nations to send peacekeepers to protect the Zaporizhzhia NPP even without the agreement of Russia, whose troops temporarily seized the power plant.

This was stated by Petro Kotin, head of  “Energoatom”, quoted by Bild on January 4.

According to Kotin, there is still no progress in the efforts of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to create a protective zone around the ZNPP.

Ukraine “offers to go one step further,” stressed the head of Energoatom.

Since August 2022, Ukraine has called on the UN to send peacekeepers to the ZNPP, but the condition for this was to reach an agreement with Russia on the creation of a security zone around the power plant, Bild noted.

At the beginning of March 2022, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe – ZNPP – came under the occupation of the Russian military and has been operating under their control since then. Since August, the occupiers have been regularly shelling the ZNPP and Energodar, as a result of which the station was completely disconnected from the power grid several times.

On September 1, a 14-person IAEA delegation visited the station. The employees of the agency remained at ZNPP.

Ukraine insists on the withdrawal of the Russian occupiers from the station. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that as long as Russian soldiers remain at the ZNPP, “the world remains on the brink of a radiation disaster.”

On December 2, the Director General of the IAEA, Raphael Grossi, announced that he hopes to reach an agreement with Russia and Ukraine regarding the creation of a protective zone at the station.

At the beginning of January 2023, it became known that the Russians are taking their personnel to the captured ZNPP, they will work instead of those who refuse to cooperate with the occupiers.

“Zaporizhkoks” reduced production by 12% due to the war

The enterprise produces about 10% of the coke produced in Ukraine.

“Zaporizhkoks”, one of the largest coke chemical producers in Ukraine, which is part of the Metinvest group, in 2022 reduced blast furnace coke production by 11.9% compared to 2021 – to 737,400 tons.

This is evidenced by the company’s data. It is reported that 70.8 percent of coke was produced in December, compared to 68,100 tons in the previous month, and 66,600 tons in December 2021.

“The decrease in the level of production compared to the same period last year is related to the shortage of raw materials caused by military actions,” the company’s information explains.

“Zaporizhkoks” produces about 10% of the coke produced in Ukraine, and has a complete technological cycle of processing coke chemical products. In addition, it produces coke gas and furnace coke.

“Metinvest” is a vertically integrated mining group of companies. Its main shareholders are SCM Group (71.24%) and Smart Holding (23.76%), which jointly manage the company.
