The Naftogaz facility in Brody is still burning: rescuers are extinguishing the fire for the third day

On January 27, the Russians struck the Lviv region with UAVs. An infrastructure facility belonging to the National Joint-Stock Company “Naftogaz” was under attack – a fire broke out, which is still being extinguished.

Due to the attack, schoolchildren in Brody switched to distance learning, and the city is constantly measuring air quality.

Rescuers have been extinguishing a fire at an infrastructure facility that was the target of the Russian attack for the third day. This was reported by the deputy director of the regional civil defense department, Volodymyr Kravtsov. He noted that it is currently difficult to predict when the fire will be extinguished at the facility that was attacked by the Russian army on January 27 using an attack UAV.

“Emergency and rescue units are doing everything necessary to eliminate this accident as quickly as possible. The personnel involved in extinguishing the fire are being partially replaced. We can predict, as I have already said, that this is a very difficult object to eliminate and everything necessary is being done to eliminate the consequences of this accident as soon as possible,” he added.

Therefore, in the schools of the Brody community on January 29 and 30, training will be conducted remotely. In preschool educational institutions, duty groups have been organized.

According to Volodymyr Kravtsov, air quality monitoring in the Brody community is carried out several times a day. “The population is constantly informed about the content of harmful substances in the air. And appropriate recommendations are provided in accordance with the measurements,” he says.

Specialists of the Lviv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine on January 29 re-sampled air samples and checked the radiation background in areas of possible contamination. Research results as of 3:00 p.m.: carbon monoxide concentrations at all control points are within normal limits. The soot level also meets the norm, except for one point on the border of the sanitary protection zone in the village of Smilne, where an excess of 1.6 times was recorded.

“The radiation background is within natural values. There is no threat to the health of the population. If necessary, people with chronic respiratory diseases should use a mask. The population should refrain from airing the premises,” the center noted.

Information as of 11:00 a.m. on January 29, according to atmospheric air monitoring conducted by the operational response group of the Lviv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention, at six control points in the village of Smilne, Brody territorial community and in the city of Brody, the radiation background is normal, the level of carbon monoxide does not exceed permissible indicators.
