The number of children injured due to Russian aggression has increased

In Ukraine, as of January 20, 2024, the number of children injured as a result of the full-scale invasion of Russia has increased to at least 1,196, the Office of the Prosecutor General reported. The number of dead children remained unchanged: 520.

In particular, it is clarified that on January 19, a 16-year-old boy was wounded as a result of shelling by Russian troops in the city of Kherson.

Thus, more than 1,716 children were injured in Ukraine as a result of Russia’s full-scale armed aggression.

The General Prosecutor’s Office notes that these numbers are not final, “since work is ongoing to establish them in the places of hostilities, in occupied and liberated territories.”

According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, the most affected children were from Donetsk Region – 504, Kharkiv Region – 315, Kherson Region – 146, Kyiv Region – 130, Dnipropetrovsk Region – 111, Mykolaiv Region – 101, Zaporizhzhia Region – 100, Chernihiv Region – 72, Luhansk Region – 67.

January 16, 2024 The United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine said that recent Russian strikes have resulted in a sharp increase in civilian casualties, “reversing the downward trend.”

According to the United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, in just 10 days, from December 29, 2023 to January 8, 2024, as a result of Russian missile attacks and drone strikes carried out throughout the country, hundreds were killed and injured civilians, including children.

In its report, the United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine noted a 26 percent increase in the number of verified civilian casualties in December compared to November, “which is an alarming reversal of the downward trend observed in 2023.”
