The number of deaths in Poltava region after a Russian strike on rescuers has increased to four, 37 injured

In Poltava region, the number of deaths from a Russian strike on the night of May 5 has increased to four. This was reported by the head of the Poltava regional military administration, Vitaly Dyakivnych.

According to updated data, two employees of an oil and gas company and two rescuers were among the dead. As of now, 37 people are known to have been injured, including people in serious condition.

May 5 and 6 have been declared days of mourning in the Poltava region.

The head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, Andriy Danyk, reported that as a result of the second missile strike, Hero of Ukraine, Deputy Head of the Operational Coordination Center of the Poltava Region State Emergency Service Viktor Kuzmenko, and firefighter Dmytro Skryl were killed. According to him, another 23 rescuers were injured to varying degrees.

After the attack on the gas production facility, rescuers arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire, after which a second strike occurred. It is also reported that two employees of the facility and eight injured people were killed.

Secretary of the Poltava City Council, Kateryna Yamshchykova, reported that 21 people were hospitalized in city hospitals. Four of them are in serious condition in the anesthesiology and intensive care departments. Some of the wounded were sent to a regional hospital.

Poltava Region Police Chief Yevhen Rogachev reported that the shelling killed employees of the State Emergency Service and a local enterprise, and injured more than 30 people, including more than 20 rescuers and one police officer.

Police units, explosives technicians, investigators, rescuers and medics are working at the scene. Investigators from the police and the Security Service of Ukraine are documenting the consequences of the shelling under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor’s office.
