The number of victims of the Russian attack on a supermarket in the Donetsk region has increased to 14, including children

As a result of a Russian missile attack on a supermarket on July 9, 14 people were killed and 44 others were injured in Kostyantynivka.

In addition to the Eco-market, in which about 50 people were at the time of the attack, a number of nearby shopping stalls were burned to the ground.

This was announced by the head of the military administration of the Donetsk region, Vadym Filashkin. According to him, there are children among the victims, an examination will be conducted to identify them.

The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine said that Russia used a laser-guided Kh-38 air-to-air missile for the attack. The warhead of the projectile weighs 250 kg, the flight range is 40 km. Eight victims have not yet been identified, one victim is in serious condition.

Radio Svoboda journalist Serhii Horbatenko, who visited the scene of the attack, confirmed that the body can only be identified with the help of DNA testing. “I saw the remains – they are just charred silhouettes of people. The fire and the explosion were so strong,” he said, adding that the police have deployed a special point where DNA can be handed in to search for relatives.

The manager of the supermarket, Victoria Kipot, reported that 17 employees were working in the building at the time of the arrival. It is not known how many buyers there were. Filashkin said that there could be about 50 people there.

Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin called the attack on the supermarket a war crime. “This is terror and barbarism. No situation on the front can be an excuse for killing civilians. An investigation has already been launched. the Russian Federation must be and will be punished for everything it has done,” he emphasized.

After the tragedy, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, made an appeal.

He added that the rescue operation in Kostyantynivka is ongoing. According to him, as a result of the strike, not only the supermarket was blown up, but also dozens of buildings were damaged, including the post office, shops, and residential buildings.

In Kostyantynivka, Donetsk region, on August 10, they finished sorting out the debris after the Russian attack on the shopping center. 14 people are known to have died, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko said.

As Klymenko noted, 44 victims are also currently known. He added that rescuers dismantled 76 tons of building structures.

“Out of eight unidentified bodies, police forensics identified five: three women and two children – girls born in 2012 and 2014. It remains to identify three people,” he added.
