On October 14, Russian forces launched a massive ballistic missile strike against high-voltage electrical substations belonging to the national energy company Ukrenergo, resulting in significant equipment losses and damage to energy infrastructure.
This attack was one of the largest involving ballistic missiles since the start of the full-scale invasion. The primary challenge for energy workers now is the prompt execution of emergency repair and restoration operations.
During the overnight strike, Russian forces deployed 39 ballistic missiles and over 120 attack drones, targeting facilities in Kyiv, the Kyiv region, and Kharkiv. In total, damage was recorded to 26 components of the electric power system and four oil and gas infrastructure facilities, causing power outages for at least 600,000 consumers.
