The head of the Department for Countering Crimes of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine also expressed hope that all formal procedures for the creation of the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression will be adopted this year against Ukraine. “But then the procedure for selecting courts, selecting prosecutors, organizational issues will begin. We hope that it will start working from next year. I think there are all the grounds, I think so. Ukraine is doing absolutely everything,” he said. Belousov stressed that this is the first time that responsibility for the crime of aggression will be recognized since World War II. “This is a very serious precedent. But there is a lot of resistance to this process from many partners who, let’s say, demonstrate encroachments on their territories, their neighbors or other countries,” he said, adding that the Council of Europe, which has 46 countries, currently supports the creation of a special tribunal. “This is already a lot, but I hope that the list will definitely be longer. Exactly. Since accession will be open to all,” he stressed.
