The prosecutor’s office is aware of 35 murders of Ukrainian prisoners of war by the Russians on the battlefield

The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine reported that law enforcement officers are establishing the circumstances of the execution of 35 Ukrainian prisoners of war by the Russian invaders in the conditions of hostilities.

The agency reported that employees of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine are investigating the circumstances of the murder of 45 Ukrainian servicemen while in Russian captivity, including 35 prisoners of war on the battlefield.

The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine noted that a pre-trial investigation is currently underway in 19 criminal proceedings on the facts of murder, torture and ill-treatment of captured servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine under the article on violations of the laws and customs of war.

According to the results of the courts’ consideration of criminal proceedings of the specified category, a Russian soldier who was found guilty of shooting a prisoner of war of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was sentenced to life imprisonment in absentia.

On February 18, one of the Telegram channels published a message about the shooting of six captured defenders of the mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at one of the positions in Avdiivka.
