On the night of April 4, Russian troops struck one of the transformer substations, which was already damaged by massive shelling on March 22. This was announced by the chairman of Kharkiv, Igor Terekhov, on the air of the telethon.
“One of the transformer substations was hit. But it practically did not work, because it was completely crushed by the Russian army on March 22,” Terekhov said.
According to the chairman, the city does not have enough capacity, therefore “Kharkivoblenergo” introduced a shutdown schedule. The blackout interval has now been increased to 6 hours. Terekhov reports that Ukrenergo is working on the restoration of damaged energy facilities in the Kharkiv region.
It is too early to talk about the timing of reconstruction, because the damage is serious – transformers need to be replaced, and it takes time to manufacture new ones.
On the night of March 22, the Russians struck the critical infrastructure of Kharkiv. As a result of shelling in the city, the electricity supply disappeared, there were interruptions with water supply and heating. Electric transport (metro, tram and trolleybus) and traffic lights did not work due to the blackout.
